After a 3 year pandemic hiatus, hundreds of families attended the return of the in-person 9th Annual ¡Viva el Mariachi! Concert at Mission High school on Friday, March 17th. The master of ceremonies for the evening was Fátima Ramírez, Executive Director of Acción Latina. 

The event opened with a dynamic performance by Mission-based Cuicacalli ballet folklorico ensemble led by Jesús Cortés. The stage was then filled with three hundred students ranging from various elementary, middle and high schools across the San Francisco School District’s Spanish bilingual program participated in the special musical showcase including Dolores Huerta Elementary, Cesar Chavez Elementary, Bryant Elementary, Cleveland Elementary, El Dorado Elementary, Spring Valley Elementary, Junipero Serra Elementary, Longfellow Elementary, Buena Vista Horace Mann, Everett Middle School, Mission High, Ruth Asawa School for the Arts, and Marshall High School. 

The event was organized by several music teachers in the SFUSD Arts department, SFUSD Artist in Residence, Eduardo Garcia from Mariachi Nueva Generación along with teaching artists and administrators from Community Music Center including Ariane Cortes, Martha Rodriguez-Salazar and Chantel Hernandez. The event also featured special guest Mariachi Ocelotlán from the University of Pacific located in Stockton, under the direction of Luis Talamantes.
