Condemned building at 22nd and Mission hit by second blaze
Nearly 14 months after the blaze at 22nd and Mission streets that left one person dead and dozens of Mission residents and businesses displaced, a three-alarm fire broke out at that same building just after 11:30 p.m. on March 13. According to various media reports, fire officials suspect that squatters started the latest blaze. The 3-story building was destroyed by the initial fire on Jan. 28, 2015, and has remained vacant since.

Second indigenous activist murdered in Honduras in less than 2 weeks
Less than two weeks after the assassination of Honduran indigenous environmental activist Berta Cáceres, colleague and fellow activist Nelson García, 38, was killed near his home in Río Lindo, Honduras on March 15. An active member of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organisations of Honduras (COPINH)—which was co-founded by Cáceres—García was forcefully evicted from the Lenca indigenous Río Chiquito community by Honduran military and was then fatally shot by an unidentified gunman while returning home. The Netherlands-based Development Finance Company, which was sponsoring construction of the Agua Zarca Dam project opposed by COPINH, announced it would suspend all activities until the violence ceases.
