Bay Area’s global fusion bands LoCura, Makrú and Shake Your Peace will kick off their touring season at the Great American Music Hall Jan. 26 under the auspices of La Bohemia Productions’ first concert of the year.

LoCura will showcase songs from their first EP, “Semilla Caminante,” to be released in the spring, while Makrú will present new material from their first full-length album also to be released this year.

Each band has their own flavor and style, while sharing similarities that make them uniquely San Franciscan. Their makeup is colorful and borderless, with talented musicians who came from diverse backgrounds and got together in San Francisco to create polyrhythmic sounds with conscientious lyrics that promote messages of unification, respect and peace.

Singer Kata Miletich and her band LoCura mix their own style of califas flamenkito, reggae, and Cuban son. Moved by music that crosses borders and takes root in different lands, LoCura draws from the creative “rebelde” spirit to cultivate the cures passed on from our ancestors.

Likewise, Makrú’s positive global beats fuse rumba flamenca, reggae, Cuban son, cumbia and ska, while experimenting with sound and improvisation. Martina Castro, lead singer of Makrú and award-winning radio producer, describes the improvisation that occurs between musicians from such diverse backgrounds as being like the band’s seventh member.

Lastly, Shake Your Peace have created a new style of music called whup—a celebratory and political dance music that combines: Afro-Latin rhythm, marching band percussion, bluegrass fiddle, gospel choir-style harmonies, call and response, and spirit invocation.
There is no better way to enjoy this family of bands than live with your community.

LoCura, Makrú, and Shake Your Peace will play at the Great American Music Hall (859 O’Farrell St., San Francisco, CA) on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 the day of the show (http://tickets.gamh.com/events/258383/LoCura)
