The Latino Comics Expo will return for its third consecutive year to the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, with over 20 artists showcasing their unique talents to the public. Mario Hernandez, co-creator of the world famous “Love and Rockets” comic, will be returning to the expo this year, as well as Rafael Navarro, creator of the sleepless detective/crime-fighter Sonambulo. Other participants include Ozi Magaña, Erik Arreaga, Gabrielle Gamboa, Crystal Gonzalez, Isis Rodriguez, Jose Cabrera, Fernando Rodriguez and John Jota Leanos. A special attraction to all comic fans is the new animated art that is being showcased this year. Jim Lujan, winner of the Bill Plympton Indie Animation Award, will be screening several of his animated short films. Professor Frederick Aldama, a Stanford alumni and teacher of Latino Studies at Ohio State University, will preview his new book, “Multimediated Latinos: Film, Television, Web, Comics and Latinos in the 21st Century.” Kids of all ages are encouraged to join a comic workshop that will bring real characters to life.
