President Donald Trump’s crackdown on immigration has sparked widespread anger and anxiety, with reports of raids and deportations fueling protests across the country.

In San Francisco, about 200 demonstrators gathered at 24th Street BART Plaza in the Mission District, denouncing Trump’s mass deportation plan, his push to end birthright citizenship and the recent revocation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for more than 300,000 Venezuelans.

“We are demanding no more ICE in our communities, we want to make sure that San Francisco and California stay a sanctuary,” said Katia Padilla, the chief operations officer at Latino Task Force. “We are also pushing for DACA recipients to get legalization. They have been here for so long — they have been paying all of their fees, following all the rules — but it’s time to stop playing around with people’s lives.”

Demonstrators carried signs reading, “Proud to be a child of immigrants” and waved Salvadoran and Mexican flags. Marching through Mission and Valencia Streets, they briefly shut down traffic while chanting, “No more deportations! No more ICE in our communities!”

The demonstration comes just a couple of days after more than a dozen businesses in the Mission closed as part of the national ‘A Day Without Immigrants’ protest.
