Are you a cultura keeper — a dancer, musician, or healer preserving the beauty and traditions of Latinx heritage?
Your culture, story, and presence are vital to the Mission District’s spirit. This sanctuary thrives on diversity, honors our roots, and celebrates the richness of our shared heritage.
Be part of a portrait series that captures the resilience, beauty, and strength of BIPOC Latinx communities. Through photography, this project will reflect the vibrant identity and sacred work of preserving our cultures.
About the project
Portraiture is power. Photography dignifies and amplifies the stories of our people, celebrating those who carry ancestral traditions into the modern world.
33 portraits, 33 countries: Each portrait will represent one of the 33 Latin American countries, featuring cultura keepers adorned in regalia tied to their roots. Photographed in the heart of the Mission District, these images will symbolize resilience, pride, and activism.
Your story, your community: Each portrait highlights an individual, surrounded by their community — dancers, musicians, healers — to showcase the collective strength of our traditions.
Who we’re looking for
We’re calling on cultura keepers:
- Dancers whose movements tell stories of heritage.
- Musicians whose sounds carry the spirit of homelands.
- Healers who nurture communities with ancestral wisdom.
If you preserve and share Latino traditions, we want to collaborate with you.
