Twenty Ways of Dancing at 58 is a new performance series by Guillermo Gómez-Peña involving collaborators in the dance and performance worlds. The style of the piece is a combination of the artist’s hard-edged conceptualism, embodied theory, Chicano humor, radical choreography, and wild robo-baroque aesthetics. An original video art piece is also being developed to accompany the live performance. For this version, titled “Dancing with Fear,” Gómez -Peña has invited Mexico City-Toronto performance artist Saul García-Lopez (Core member of La Pocha Nostra) and radical choreographer Esther Baker-Tarpaga (from the Baker and Tarpaga Dance Project) to spend 10 days rehearsing at Galeria de la Raza and then presenting the premiere on January 25th. During the two week residency, the three artists will lead a one-day master class for dancers interested in exploring the intersections between performance and contemporary dance. Tickets available through Brown Paper Tickets.
