A five-alarm fire broke out on the 2600 block of Mission St. Thursday afternoon (Sept. 5), ravaging businesses while unleashing clouds of ash and billows of black smoke that were visible for miles.

The fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. at the Big House Inc. Wholesale Center shop at 2632 Mission St., between 22nd and 23rd Streets. Firefighters battled the blaze but the shop was left desolate and destroyed.
