The film features Bay Area Muslim women who either wear or choose not to wear the hijab. The hijab is the veil worn by Muslim women to cover their head or face in public. In post-9/11 America, the choice of Muslim women to wear or not wear hijab has become a focal point for debate, and education about the many ways to be Muslim in America. “Just a Piece of Cloth” unravels stereotypes that the mainstream media perpetuate about Muslim women, with intimate profiles of four women who challenge us to understand the stories behind hijab, and to see the shared human dilemmas that lie just beneath the surface.
