Written and directed by Cherrie Moraga and designed by Celia Herrera Rodriguez.

In celebration of it’s 25th anniversary, Brava Theater presents this award-winning playwright and cultural activist—and one of the Brava organization’s founding members—back for this inspiring tale. Dramatic theater and ceremony at once, “New Fire” follows the sacred geography of indigenous American ancestors to tell a post-modern story of rupture and return.

Celia Herrera Rodriguez is a visual and performing artist and educator whose work reflects a full generational dialogue with Xicana and Xicano, indigenous Mexican and North American Native thought, spirituality and politics. Herrera’s work, which has been exhibited internationally, is housed in several private collections, as well as the Institute of American Indian Art Museum and the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum in Chicago. Celia Herrera has also collaborated as the conceptual designer for Cherrie Moraga’s theater productions
