Cuban Musician Tito Gonzalez presents “A Tribute to the life & music of Arsenio Rodriguez.” Tito y Su Son de Cuba celebrates the life and music of the legendary Cuban musician who created modern Cuban music (including the mambo), and in the 1940s laid the foundation for today’s salsa, by reinventing the traditional Cuban sound and giving birth to thoroughly rhythmic dance music. He was a prolific composer and lyricist, an excellent trecero and a creator of the conjunto format. It is impossible to overstate his importance; if you have ever heard a conga drum in popular music, or listened to a mambo or boogaloo, then you have heard the wide-ranging musical influence that Arsenio left behind.  Featured special guests: Orestes Vilato, Perico Hernandez, Fito Reinoso, Julius Mendez and José Rafael Mendez.

Admission: $30

Venue: Yoshi’s Jazz Club, 510 Embarcadero West, Oakland
