California’s longest running bilingual newspaper, El Tecolote was born out of the La Raza Studies department at San Francisco State University in 1970. Professor Juan Gonzales created the class as a way to channel more Latinos into journalism, as Latinos and other people of color were virtually invisible in the major newsrooms at the time. In the time since, El Tecolote has become a veritable community institution and a pipeline for Latinos to enter the field of journalism.

We are seeking volunteers to write, research, translate, photograph, create multimedia and copy edit. You can help us to uncover the stories that matter to our community and in the process help to shape its future.
