This event honors the leadership of five extraordinary women who work everyday for the livelihood of their communities through civic engagement, the arts and championing justice for the most marginalized.

This year’s honorees include Audelia Quiñones, a mother of 10 who seamlessly organizes for the education and welfare of her neighbors, “I am honored to receive this award and will continue to ensure our policymakers invest in the future of our children and those of generations to come.”

April Silas, director of the Homeless Children’s Network who provides mental health services for the Mission’s most vulnerable residents says. “During this economic crisis we must not give up on society’s most vulnerable by cutting social services when stress and hardship take their toll on our families.”

Other honorees include Grassroots Organizer, Rosa Pinto and Nina Serrano, Radio Producer and Author, who champion the human rights of immigrants and women in the Bay Area though their activism, art and work to democratize the media and Martha Garcia

Fundacion Caminante founded by musician and community organizer Francisco Herrera and community leader Maria Christina Herrera will host the benefit dinner and concert to raise funds for Fundacion Caminante’s work in indigenous communities in Mexico and Central America.
