Galería de la Raza presents an exhibition by artist Mercedes Dorame. As a member of the Gabrielino Tongva Indians of California—a tribe not federally recognized and without reservation land—Dorame brings her large-scale photographs to Galería de la Raza, in search of her roots and historical background. With personal and cultural “artifacts,” she explores constructions of community and origin stories as cultural outcomes of the need to tie one’s existence to the land. The artist’s cultural heritage deeply connects her to the landscape, and, piques interest in the problems of living in a place that once belonged to ancestors.

Where: Galería de la Raza; Studio 24, 2857 24th St, S.F.
