In April 2011, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei is kidnapped by the Chinese authorities and detained at a secret location. 81 days later he is released under house arrest, with 18 cameras monitoring his studio and home. Police agents follow his every move, and heavy restrictions from the Kafka-esque Chinese authorities weigh him down. But Ai Weiwei remains firm in his belief that China is about to change, finding new energy to provoke the mighty Chinese powers that be and lend voice to the Chinese people. Directed by Andreas Johnsen • Denmark. 2013. NR. In English & Mandarin with English subtitles. 89 mins.
