(415) 824-3890, www.atasite.org.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Even before the debut of Iggy Pop and the Stooges, Peru\u2019s Los Saicos (1964\u201366) were screaming lyrics to three-cord songs played on a homemade guitar hooked up to amplifiers meant for emitting announcements over factory speakers. Soon rumors began to spread that singer Erwin Flores and guitarist Rolando \u201cChino\u201d Carpio ate raw human flesh. Others said that drummer Pancho Guevara was seen playing his drums with a hammer and could make girls take off their clothes with his beats. Hailed as los abuelos of garage-punk rock, Los Saicos\u2019 music has experienced a resurgence among underground DJ\u2019s and bands from around the world that have covered their hits. Last February, independent documentary Saicoman\u00eda opened at an old theater in Lima called Teatro Patricia and tickets sold out in 40 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Join KPFA\u2019s Rock en Rebeli\u00f3n and Colectivo Cinema Errante at the U.S. premiere of Saicoman\u00eda at San Francisco\u2019s Artists\u2019 Television Access.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the bill: All-vinyl DJ sets by Sonido Franko and music videos by contemporary bands from Peru, Argentina and Spain influenced by the seminal band.
