John Wayne interpret\u00f3 al agente de la ley Reuben \u201cRooster\u201d J. Cogburn, papel que le vali\u00f3 el \u00fanico Oscar de su carrera.\u00a0 Aquel libreto, escrito por Marguerite Roberts, daba a Cogburn el rol central en la historia, algo que, es de suponerse, habr\u00eda ocurrido aun de haberse escogido una adaptaci\u00f3n distinta de la novela de Portis. Wayne, llanamente, forj\u00f3 un \u00edcono tras el parche del tuerto y alcoholizado \u201cRooster\u201d Cogburn.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 El duelo contra la banda completa de \u201cLucky\u201d Ned Pepper, interpretado por Robert Duvall, es una escena que bastar\u00eda para ilustrar el indomable arrojo de los h\u00e9roes del western cl\u00e1sico, quienes llegado el momento se entregan desarmados de cinismo a la batalla final, inspirados por una causa simple: justicia.<\/p>\n<p>El libreto de los Coen es m\u00e1s apegado a la novela de Portis, as\u00ed que el personaje central es Matti Ross, la adolescente que contrata a Cogburn para que atrape al asesino de su padre, tarea que los lanza a ambos y a un agente de los Rangers de Texas, LaBoeuf, en b\u00fasqueda del fugitivo Tom Chaney.\u00a0 La nueva versi\u00f3n de True Grit ahonda en las consecuencias que esta aventura tiene en Matti Ross \u2013quien tiene la voz narradora en la novela\u2013; es una historia que intenta contar m\u00e1s sobre c\u00f3mo los entornos nos transforman.<\/p>\n<p>La obsesi\u00f3n de los Coen con las voces narrativas y los di\u00e1logos, su regusto por las entonaciones se adivinan entre los motivos para hacer esta segunda versi\u00f3n de True Grit.\u00a0 Barry Pepper, quien interpreta al bandido \u201cLucky\u201d Ned Pepper en el nuevo film, dice del trabajo de Portis: \u201cLos di\u00e1logos en la novela son como poes\u00eda de vaqueros escrita por Shakespeare\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A Joel y Ethan Coen es dif\u00edcil reprocharles algo como cineastas.\u00a0 El conjunto de su obra los hace venerables.\u00a0 Han construido un estilo propio, fundado en el noir y la comedia negra, b\u00e1sicamente.\u00a0 Son detallistas, y m\u00e1s de una vez, han demostrado maestr\u00eda, algo que en el cine se ha definido como la capacidad de presentar im\u00e1genes que ning\u00fan otro hab\u00eda imaginado.<\/p>\n<p>True Grit, formalmente, es puntillosa, casi libre de defectos.\u00a0 Todo est\u00e1 al servicio de la historia.\u00a0 Fotograf\u00eda, escenarios, ambientaciones, vestuarios, en cada aspecto hay cuidado.\u00a0 Las actuaciones son relevantes \u2013Matt Damon se luce como el arrogante LaBouf;\u00a0 Jeff Bridges crea un Cogburn propio, sin un gesto que recuerde a Wayne; y la pel\u00edcula toda pertenece a la novata Hailee Steinfield, una espectacularmente testaruda, brillante y valiente Matti Ross-. Y, sin embargo, el producto final no satisface.\u00a0 Hay algo, quiz\u00e1 la verbalizaci\u00f3n excesiva, que resta energ\u00eda a la acci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Era previsible que Bridges no tendr\u00eda la misma verosimilitud a caballo que pose\u00eda John Wayne, apodado en la vida real como the Duke. \u00a0Pero que conste, Bridges \u2013quien cre\u00f3, de la mano de los Coen, en The Big Lebowski (1998), un personaje que se hizo ya tambi\u00e9n un cl\u00e1sico de la cinematograf\u00eda, The Dude, y quien apenas este a\u00f1o levant\u00f3 el Oscar como mejor actor por Crazy Hart\u2013 no es el mayor problema de la nueva version de True Grit.<\/p>\n<p>Para los Coen \u00e9ste es su segundo remake \u2013en 2004 hicieron una nueva versi\u00f3n de The Ladykillers, originalmente puesta en pantalla por Alexander Mackendrick, en 1955\u2013, y como les sucedi\u00f3 con aquella, protagonizada por Tom Hanks, tropiezan, se quedan cortos, si se les compara con la versi\u00f3n anterior.<\/p>\n<p>Si bien el True Grit de Hattaway carece en su producci\u00f3n de las virtudes que realzan la pel\u00edcula de los Coen \u2013incluso Steven Spilberg aparece como productor ejecutivo en la versi\u00f3n de 2010\u2013 tiene aquella la honestidad de no pretenderse m\u00e1s que como entretenimiento, rala pel\u00edcula de vaqueros, y esa simpleza brutal \u2013\u00bfcu\u00e1l era, sino, la aflicci\u00f3n de Barton Fink?\u2013 es de cierto modo impedida por los amaneramientos de Joel y Ethan Coen, dos brillantes cineastas que esta vez, sin embargo, toparon en duelo con un rival m\u00e1s fuerte.<\/p>\n<p>Si lo que quiere es una recomendaci\u00f3n, s\u00ed, as\u00f3mese y v\u00e9ala.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Los Coen se meten al terreno del western;
