San Francisco police and the SFMTA are ramping up efforts to move the displaced RV community<\/a> of families and children from their new location near the San Francisco Zoo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday morning, RV residents anxiously watched as about a dozen police officers and SFMTA city workers posted 72-hour notices on their RVs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI got up to water the plants before my husband went to work,\u201d said Veronica Ca\u00f1as, 29. Out of fear of having her RV towed, Ca\u00f1as stayed inside the vehicle with her two small children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One RV resident, Jamilet Calderon, 43, had one of her RVs towed due to out-of-date registration. \u201cI\u2019m not going to go get it\u2026 it\u2019s gone,\u201d said Calderon, who scrambled to retrieve as many belongings as possible from the vehicle. \u201cWe bought that RV because we all can\u2019t fit in mine\u2014I\u2019m left with a headache and trauma now\u2014I haven\u2019t slept well.\u201d The RV housed her two kids, who were at work while city officials were citing RVs. Now, they will have to share Calderon\u2019s remaining RV, which already houses her daughter and beloved pitbull.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City workers are enforcing a 72-hour parking restriction in the area, which, according to SFMTA spokesperson Erica Kato, is in effect citywide for areas that have no other parking limits or restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several RVs were damaged during the initial move from Winston Drive to their new location, while others lack current registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The West Side Tenant Association has organized a GoFundMe page<\/a> to support RV residents with vehicle registration costs and to pay for parking tickets. \u201cPlease donate to help with parking and registration costs so families can keep their homes,\u201d reads the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey took us out. They don\u2019t want us there,\u201d said Gio, who prefers to be identified by his first name. \u201cThe police came to say they don\u2019t want us here anymore. They don\u2019t want to see us here by Monday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
