Since the first issue of El Tecolote hit the streets on August 24, 1970, our bilingual, community newsroom has been primarily powered by scores of dedicated volunteers who believe grassroots journalism has the power to strengthen and uplift underserved communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our volunteers are students and community members from a variety of backgrounds. Some are publishing their first bylines, while others are professionals contributing their skills to help keep our communities informed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This summer, we are thrilled to introduce ten people who are part of our inaugural News Hub volunteer program. They are writers, photographers, video producers, and social media editors who will receive training, skills-based workshops, and networking opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Veronica Brehmer<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Veronica is studying Spanish Literature and Language at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, with an interest in learning more about Latinx culture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Cami Dominguez<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cami (they\/them) is currently a journalism student at San Francisco State University and is interested in elevating community voices through reporting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Molly Gutierrez<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Molly recently graduated from San Francisco State with a B.A. in Race and Resistance Studies and a double minor in Journalism and Marketing. She hopes to gain some real insight on what it looks like to work in a nonprofit newsroom.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Daniel Eduardo Hernandez<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Daniel is from the Inland Empire and will graduate from SFSU in December, where he is studying bilingual Spanish journalism. What began as a fascination with taking photos and editing videos grew into a passion for telling stories about the Latino community. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Michelle was born in Mexico and has lived in San Francisco for the last two years. She studied Communication Science and Techniques. She likes creating content for social media and landscape photography.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Jennifer is a journalism student at San Jose State University. She graduated from City College of San Francisco, where she wrote for the Guardsman, Etc. Magazine and completed a fellowship with California Humanities.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
