There\u2019s a new Mission mural on 24th and Mission Street. The front entrance of San Francisco\u2019s Dance Mission Theater, an artist-driven nonprofit with a focus on social justice, is now adorned with a woman wearing a crown of vibrant flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I wanted something that fits with the Mission,\u201d said Christopher Burch, an artist that has been living in San Francisco\u2019s Mission District for more than five years. “I think flowers are something that people connect with \u2026 it crosses cultures and understandings.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burch has been painting murals for more than 13 years, but this is his first mural in the neighborhood. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Burch graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2008 with an MFA in painting and worked at the Revolution Cafe in 2009. “I feel very comfortable in this place,\u201d said Burch. \u201cIt’s nice that I get to make my mark and add some beauty to the Mission, because it’s been very formative to who I am as a person.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mural took about three months to create from the initial design to finally painting it on the building\u2019s wall. Burch added the final touches on Friday, April 12. “The Mission has an amazing history of great artists,\u201d said Burch. \u201cI wanted to pay homage to that legacy and to do something that was within that quality of work.
