This limited-time exhibition focuses on Rivera&#8217;s work from the 1920s to the mid-1940s, the richest years of the artist\u2019s prolific career. During these two key decades, Rivera created a new Vision for North America, informed by his travels in Mexico and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Diego Rivera\u2019s America <\/em>brings together more than 150 of Rivera\u2019s artworks \u2014 as well as three galleries devoted to large-scale film projections of his highly influential murals. The experience builds on SFMOMA\u2019s collection of over 70 works of art by Rivera, one of the largest in the world. It features paintings, drawings and frescoes borrowed from public and private collections in Mexico, the U.S. and the U.K., reuniting many for the first time since the artist\u2019s death. Iconic and much-loved works, such as <em>The<\/em> <em>Flower Carrier <\/em>(1935) and <em>Portrait of Lupe <\/em><em>Mar\u00edn<\/em> (1938), will be shown alongside paintings that have not been seen publicly since leaving the artist\u2019s studio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Public Programs&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On <strong>Sunday, July 17, SFMOMA will offer a free community celebration<\/strong> including free admission and a lively day of music, dance performances, screenings, and other revelry throughout the museum. All day long, experience the vibrant creativity of San Francisco\u2019s Mission District with music and dance performances curated by Acc\u00edon Latina; a mercado featuring crafts by local artisans; a low rider display; the public\u2019s first peek at <em>Diego Rivera\u2019s America<\/em>, and more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, from 1\u20138 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month, Bay Area residents can enjoy SFMOMA for free. First Thursdays in August, September, and October will celebrate the Rivera exhibition with live performances, readings, and music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Admission &amp; Hours&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Diego Rivera\u2019s America<\/em> opens to the public July 16, 2022, with Member Preview days starting July 14. The exhibition has an additional surcharge. Guests who purchase their tickets online in advance will receive a $2 discount. Visitors 18 and younger are always free. Tickets are available now at sfmoma.org.&nbsp;Starting Tuesday, July 5, 2022, SFMOMA will be open 10 a.m.\u20135p.m. on Tuesdays. Museum hours will be 10 a.m.\u20135p.m. on Fridays through Tuesdays and 1\u20138 p.m. on Thursdays (closed Wednesdays).
