24th Street filled with live music, theater and dancing on Oct. 23 for Acci\u00f3n Latina\u2019s first in-person Paseo Art\u00edstico since the onset of COVID-19. The event, themed \u201cHistory Matters in the Mission,\u201d celebrated the accomplishments of Mission legends who gave a voice and identity to the neighborhood through their art, activism and community organizing. Theater maker Paul Flores performed as Juan Gonzales, who founded El Tecolote in 1970, Carlos Bar\u00f3n, storied educator and playwright, and Michael Rios, who painted the 24th Street Bart station mural. Edna Mira Raia performed as revolutionary dramatist Joan Holden, Vero Majano performed \u201cRemember Los Siete\u201d and Vanessa Sanchez danced in honor of renowned painter Yolanda L\u00f3pez, whose vision inspired this Paseo. Neighbors and passersby also gathered to tour Balmy Alley with Precita Eyes, sway to \u201cLas Ma\u00f1anitas\u201d with the Community Music Center, watch performances by feminist group Dance Brigade and view the altars at Mission Cultural Center.
