The Presidio of San Francisco (June 1, 2017) – <\/b>Presidio, San Francisco’s Golden Gate National Park, is pleased to announce free public activities this summer, including a colorful cultural celebration, <\/span>Pasados \u200b\u200bdel Presidio <\/i><\/b>. <\/span><\/i>This event marks the anniversary of San Francisco honoring the heritage of pre-Hispanic cultures in the Presidio-Ohlone, Spanish and Mexican-and the founding of <\/span>El Presidio de San Francisco<\/span><\/i> in 1776. In addition, summer is the perfect season to discover the sites Free picnics, hiking trails, nature, iconic sights and other fun activities that the Presidio has to offer. <\/span>Visitors and families can plan their own adventures with the help of the Presidio’s new Visitors Guide for family fun at the Presidio. <\/b>You can find the details at www.presidio.gov\/espanol<\/span><\/a> .<\/span><\/p>\n

Celebrate <\/b>Past Presidio<\/i><\/b> – Commemoration of the cultural heritage of the Presidio<\/b><\/p>\n

On June 23 and 24, the Presidio invites the public to celebrate the Latino and indigenous communities of the Bay Area in <\/span>Pasados \u200b\u200bdel Presidio<\/i><\/b> . There are free events such as the Fun afternoon for children (Friday, June 23, from noon to 3 pm), where you can enjoy practical activities such as making tortillas, candles and adobes, storytelling, a visit by Juanito el Burro, Live history, archeology and much more. In the afternoon dance performances by Rumsen Ohlone and the Mexican Folkloric Ballet are offered. The Mexican restaurant Arguello will be selling its representative dishes.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Saturday, June 24 (from 10:30 am to noon), <\/span>the Californians<\/span><\/a> , descendants of the original founding families of the Expedition of John Baptist de Anza, return to the Presidio riding a colorful cavalcade to honor the journey of their ancestors since Mexico to found the <\/span>Presidio of San Francisco<\/span><\/i> . This event is known as the <\/span>San Francisco Anniversary <\/b>. Later that day (from 2 pm to 4 pm), the <\/span>Los Cenzontles <\/b>Bay Area favorites will <\/span>feature live music from a <\/span>variety of regions in Mexico: Veracruz’s Jarocho, Michoac\u00e1n Indians’ pirekuas, boleros, corridos and Rancheras<\/span><\/p>\n

Picnic Sites and Community Picnic Events<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The Presidio offers a half-dozen free picnic sites where groups of various sizes can bring their own food (on the sites there are grills). There are sites available from Crissy Field to Baker Beach. In addition, the Presidio Trust and Off the Grid Markets organize two weekly community picnics with food trucks offering a wide variety of food from around the world, family activities, live music and games: <\/span>Picnic at the Presidio<\/i><\/b> , on Sundays, from 11 am to 4 pm; And <\/span>Sunset at the Presidio<\/i><\/b> on Thursdays from 5 pm to 9 pm<\/span><\/p>\n

The new Presidio Visitor Center\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

An excellent place to start the day in the national park is the Presidio Visitor Center. Newly opened in February, the visitor center offers videos and exhibits, interactive digital tools and multilingual staff that can help everyone plan a great day in the park, whether it’s a visit to the Golden Gate Bridge or an outdoor walk.<\/span><\/p>\n

Presidio Officers Club – museum and cultural center<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The Presidio Officers Club, built at the same time as the Dolores Mission, is the oldest building in the Presidio and is a wonderful place to know the history and people of the beginning of the Presidio. This summer, the archaeological excavations that reveal the foundation of the first fort – <\/span>The Presidio of San Francisco<\/span><\/i> – take place on Fridays and Saturdays from June 30 to October 21 (from 10 am to 2 pm).<\/span><\/p>\n
