{"id":28086,"date":"2015-09-24T14:08:29","date_gmt":"2015-09-24T21:08:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eltecolote.org\/content\/?p=28086"},"modified":"2015-09-24T18:30:26","modified_gmt":"2015-09-25T01:30:26","slug":"the-meeting-of-styles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eltecolote.org\/content\/en\/the-meeting-of-styles\/","title":{"rendered":"The Meeting of Styles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[su_slider source=&#8221;media: 28094,28093,28092,28091,28090,28089,28088,28087&#8243; limit=&#8221;25&#8243; link=&#8221;image&#8221; target=&#8221;blank&#8221; width=&#8221;700&#8243; height=&#8221;460&#8243; autoplay=&#8221;0&#8243; speed=&#8221;500&#8243;][su_menu][\/su_slider]<\/p>\n<p>Aerosol fumes filled the atmosphere throughout the alleyways off 24th Street during the Meeting Of Styles (MOS) event, where hundreds gathered to share their passion for graffiti writing and street art.\u00a0The three-day event\u2014Sept. 18-20\u2014was hosted by Mission Art 415 and the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts.\u00a0The international MOS organization has had more than 200 events worldwide, with Mission Art 415 hosting San Francisco\u2019s second event since 2010.\u00a0The event also celebrated the 28th anniversary of \u201cSpraycan Art\u201d by James Prigoff and Henry Chalfant, one of the first published books to document graffiti art in New York City and around the world.\u00a0Mission Art 415 was established in response to the drug abuse, prostitution, and defecation that frequently took place in the alleys off 24th Street.<\/p>\n<p>Through commissioned murals and educational programs, the organization works with the Department of Public Works and the Police Department in cleaning Lilac Alley, along with Cyprus and Osage.\u00a0Different styles of graffiti and street art were noticeable throughout. Max \u201cEon75\u201d Ehrman, a graffiti muralist with a master\u2019s degree in architecture, used a triangle ruler to draw lines as a base before spray painting some blocks with color. An estimated 30-foot piece by artists Hex and Skill was filled with breakdancers. Collaborative artist duo and couple Carlos Aguilar and Ksra, painted a wall with creature-like characters.<\/p>\n<p>Rigel \u201cCRAY ONE\u201d Juratovac believes this event can help erase the negative stigma attached to graffiti.\u00a0\u201cWho\u2019s using the spray can? Your sons and daughters, they\u2019re not in a gang they just want to create art,\u201d said Juratovac. \u201cIt\u2019s so convenient, a can is pressurized by air.
