Courtesy\u00a0Bad Man&#8217;s Son Productions<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cine, cine and more cine\u2014the San Francisco Latino Film Festival is here to delight us with cinematic gems from both sides of the border.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-24617 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eltecolote.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/billboard_preview.jpg?resize=223%2C326&#038;quality=89&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"billboard_preview\" width=\"223\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eltecolote.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/billboard_preview.jpg?resize=171%2C250&amp;quality=89&amp;ssl=1 171w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eltecolote.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/billboard_preview.jpg?resize=329%2C480&amp;quality=89&amp;ssl=1 329w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eltecolote.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/billboard_preview.jpg?zoom=2&amp;resize=223%2C326&amp;quality=89&amp;ssl=1 446w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/eltecolote.org\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/billboard_preview.jpg?zoom=3&amp;resize=223%2C326&amp;quality=89&amp;ssl=1 669w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 223px) 100vw, 223px\" \/>Over the course of nine days, Cine+Mas will present a festival of 42 films that include full-length films, shorts, fiction and documentaries from the United States, Latin America and Spain.<\/p>\n<p>The sixth edition of this film festival has a strong California presence.<\/p>\n<p>From Oakland, comes the entertaining \u201cEast Side Sushi\u201d by Anthony Lucero, which is about a young Mexican woman who works at a Japanese restaurant and becomes excited to learn how to prepare sushi, despite the surprise of her family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEast Side Sushi\u201d is a great example of the importance of capturing the interest of the public that revolves around having a heartwarming story to tell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAvenues,\u201d directed by Aaref Rodriguez and shot in the Highland Park neighborhood in Los Angeles, is an introspective and concise film that revolves around Saul, who faces the daunting task of reintegrating into society after spending 10 years in prison. With solid performances and a well-constructed script, this film, based on a true story, will keep the viewer guessing.<\/p>\n<p>Also from Los Angeles comes \u201cCry Now\u201d by Alberto Barboza, which has an entertaining and funny dialogue that contains all of the elements for an enjoyable film: a beautiful tattoo artist, a handsome artist, a torrid love story, violence and a vibrant soundtrack.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Cry Now - Teaser 2014\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/88257531?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>From Latin America, we can enjoy a splendid Mexican production \u201cLa Jaula de Oro,\u201d which won the Premio Ariel for best picture. Boletos: $12 general, $10 estudiantes y personas retiradas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>From the Caribbean, swaying back and forth like a sugar cane in the wind, comes the Cuban production \u201cMelaza,\u201d a folkloric drama with fine design and detailed direction by Carlos Lechuga.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, from Peru comes the intimate story \u201cViaje a Tombuctu\u201d by Rossana Diaz Costa about teenagers growing up amid violence generated by the armed group Sendero Luminoso during the 1980s and \u201890s.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a large selection of documentaries available.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoque Dalton: Fusilemos la Noche\u201d by Austrian filmmaker Tina Leisch, is an original piece and interesting story surrounding the figure of the Salvadoran poet and activist. Peru\u2019s \u201cIcarus,\u201d is about the Shipibo people of the Ucayali River, and details Ayahuasca rituals. And from the United States comes \u201cRumba Clave Blen Blen Blen\u201d about rumba music from New York.<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/vimeo.com\/83875108<\/p>\n<p>Among short films, \u201cIrene,\u201d by Costa Rican director Alexandra Latishov, highlights a subtle and captivating portrait of the dissatisfaction of a single mother; meanwhile the cute Mexican production \u201cAlma y Ezperanza\u201d revolves around the relationship between a girl and her grandmother in Nochixtlan, Oaxaca; and \u201cSouth American Cho-Low\u201d is an interesting documentary about cholos in Sao Paolo, Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>Notable local short films include: \u201cFrontera! Revolt &amp; Rebellion on the Rio Grande\u201d by John J. Lea\u00f1os, which is about the revolt of the Pueblo indians of New Mexico in the 17th century; and the genuine \u201cOne, Two, Three\u201d by Melissa Suncin, which was filmed in San Francisco\u2019s Mission District.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Uno Dos Tres (Official Trailer)\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/64973141?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The production of Latino cinema, on both sides of the border, is prolific and healthy.
