The American Library Association has recognized the achievements of Luis Herrera, for his great work with children and their integration into reading programs in libraries of San Francisco.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very excited and very proud that they recognize the work we\u2019re doing,\u201d Herrera said. \u201cIt is fulfilling to have a career where you can serve children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nominated for the 2014 Peggy Sullivan Award, Herrera had the support of Mayor Ed Lee, who commended his work and efforts to keep the City\u2019s libraries accessible, updated and open to everyone\u2014welcoming different cultures.<\/p>\n

Herrera stressed the personal satisfaction that his work gives him.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have books and personnel who are serving in languages \u200b\u200bsuch as Spanish, Chinese, Russian,\u201d said the librarian.<\/p>\n

Herrera belongs to The National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking (REFORMA), a non-profit organization that promotes bilingual libraries, education and reading among the Spanish-speaking community. He believes that a very important way to foster strong, cohesive communities is through a library.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just finished remodeling our 28 libraries in San Francisco,\u201d said Herrera. \u201cThese libraries will offer books in different languages, movies and even e-books,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cI call on the community to get your card and make use of the libraries. San Francisco has a world-class library system and that is what we offer,\u201d said Herrera.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
