Lo que reina es el hambre en un hogar donde ni los frijoles y la tortilla ajustan para dar de comer a todas las bocas en la mesa.<\/p>\n<p>Es as\u00ed que Macario, frustrado, decide no comer m\u00e1s, hasta que su mujer roba un pavo para regal\u00e1rselo. Ya en el bosque, ni al diablo ni a dios se lo comparte, sin embargo s\u00ed a la muerte, quien manda a Macario por el camino del maligno con un agua bendita para curar al mundo.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando \u201cMacario\u201d fue premiada como mejor pel\u00edcula en el Festival de San Sebasti\u00e1n de 1959 y nominada al a\u00f1o siguiente al \u00d3scar como mejor pel\u00edcula extranjera, su director, Roberto Gavald\u00f3n, ya era un talento establecido dentro de una industria que ven\u00eda honr\u00e1ndolo desde su opera prima \u201cLa Barraca\u201d (1944), que recibi\u00f3 10 Arieles, incluyendo el de mejor pel\u00edcula y mejor director.<\/p>\n<p>Los talentos del cinemat\u00f3grafo Gabriel Figueroa y el director Roberto Gavald\u00f3n, figuras claves en la realizaci\u00f3n del exitoso y galardonado film \u201cMacario\u201d, florecieron en la denominada \u00e9poca de oro del cine mexicano, que se dio entre los a\u00f1os 1941 y 1945.<\/p>\n<p>En un per\u00edodo de apenas cuatro a\u00f1os, debutaron decenas de nuevos directores\u2014entre ellos Julio Bracho y Emilio \u201cEl Indio\u201d Fern\u00e1ndez\u2014, se produjeron m\u00e1s de 250 pel\u00edculas y se afirm\u00f3 un aut\u00e9ntico cuadro de estrellas: Cantinflas, Jorge Negrete, Mar\u00eda F\u00e9lix, Arturo de C\u00f3rdoba, Dolores del R\u00edo y Pedro Armend\u00e1riz.<\/p>\n<p>En esa misma \u00e9poca se fund\u00f3 el Sindicato de Trabajadores de la Industria Cinematogr\u00e1fica (STPC) y la Academia Mexicana de Ciencias y Artes cinematogr\u00e1ficas, que se encargar\u00eda de otorgar los premios Ariel en honor al mejor cine mexicano seg\u00fan su criterio.<\/p>\n<p>En la tradici\u00f3n de las f\u00e1bulas cl\u00e1sicas, \u201cMacario\u201d est\u00e1 llena de simbolismos y tiene un fuerte mensaje social, optando por momentos c\u00f3micos, ir\u00f3nicos y sobrios tambi\u00e9n, y es constante en la combinaci\u00f3n del naturalismo y lo fant\u00e1stico. Densamente visualizada en la fotograf\u00eda de Gabriel Figueroa, su trama se desenvuelve de manera dram\u00e1tica y memorable, en parte por el excelente trabajo de sus actores \u2014 Ignacio L\u00f3pez Tarso, Enrique Lucero y Pina Pellicer\u2014 y por un gui\u00f3n sabiamente elaborado.<\/p>\n<p>Pero no todo fue elogio para \u201cMacario\u201d. La cr\u00edtica mexicana la evalu\u00f3 como un producto de exportaci\u00f3n, una preciosa postal de un M\u00e9xico digerible para el extranjero y un cl\u00e1sico exponente del estilo fr\u00edo e insensible de Gavald\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>El elogio por \u201cMacario\u201d en el extranjero, trajo cierto desprestigio por el cine de Gavald\u00f3n, que en la d\u00e9cada anterior era de los directores m\u00e1s respetados en M\u00e9xico.<\/p>\n<p>Pero el trabajo de Gavald\u00f3n se revalorar\u00eda en el futuro, incluyendo \u201cMacario\u201d, que hoy en d\u00eda es valorada por las mismas razones que fue criticado. Por la calidad de cine cl\u00e1sico que es, los soberbios claroscuros de Figueroa, las sublimas actuaciones de su reparto y el alto nivel de direcci\u00f3n que otorga Roberto Gavald\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMacario\u201d hoy d\u00eda sigue siendo un icono del cine mexicano.<\/p>\n<p><em>La pel\u00edcula \u201cMacario\u201d ser\u00e1 presentada de la mano del Colectivo Cinema Errante el pr\u00f3ximo 4 de noviembre en sesi\u00f3n doble junto a \u201cMisterios de ultratumba\u201d (Fernando M\u00e9ndez, M\u00e9xico, 1958) en CineCave @ Lost Weekend, 1034 Valencia St. (@21st), San Francisco.
