Photo Courtesy SF Latino Film Festival<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Once again, the month of September offers us two wonderful weeks filled with Latino Film courtesy of Cine + M\u00e1s.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth edition of the festival will showcase a selection of over 40 films, narratives and documentaries from Mexico, Cuba, Brazil, El Salvador, Chile, Guatemala, Spain, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay, Puerto Rico and the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights this year include three documentaries: the Salvadoran \u201cChildren of Memory,\u201d about children who disappeared during the civil war; the Guatemalan \u201cJustice for My Sister\u201d on judicial impunity over the killings of women; and the American \u201cMaestra,\u201d a testimony of the literacy work being carried out in Cuba.<\/p>\n<p>Among the feature films worthy of mention are: the Argentine \u201cNot So Modern Times,\u201d about the life of a pastor in Patagonia, who comes in contact with modernity; the Basque \u201cBertsolari,\u201d about the tradition of oral poetry; the Mexican \u201cReporter,\u201d about a newspaper in Tijuana; and the U.S. \u201cSin Padre,\u201d about a young Honduran in San Francisco\u2019s Mission District .<\/p>\n<p>The festival will also present three splendid programs of short films\u2014\u201cLatin American Shorts,\u201d \u201cLGBT shorts\u201d and \u201cU.S. Latino shorts\u201d\u2014in addition to shorts that will accompany some of the feature films.<br \/>\nThe festival opens on Friday Sept. 14 at the Victoria Theatre with the American film \u201cFilly Brown,\u201d an official selection at Sundance this year, which focuses on the musical figure Maria Jose \u201cMajo\u201d Tonorio in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday Sept. 13 there will be an opening party at Blue Macaw with the musical groups La Santa Cecilia and Candelaria, and DJ Julicio.<\/p>\n<p>The films will be shown in different venues across the city\u2014Artists\u2019 Television Access, Victoria Theatre, Opera Plaza Cinema, Galeria de la Raza and the Mission Cultural Center\u2014and there will be presentations in San Jose, Oakland and the city of Richmond as well.<\/p>\n<p>For detailed information visit: <a href=\"www.sflatinofilmfestival.com\">www.sflatinofilmfestival.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2014Translation Peter Shene<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Once again, the month of September offers us two wonderful weeks filled with Latino Film courtesy of Cine + M\u00e1s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":35,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"newspack_popups_has_disabled_popups":false,"newspack_featured_image_position":"","newspack_post_subtitle":"","newspack_article_summary_title":"Overview:","newspack_article_summary":"","newspack_hide_updated_date":false,"newspack_show_updated_date":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[1474,1798,100,1700],"coauthors":[],"class_list":["post-16288","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news","tag-artists-television-access","tag-cine-mas","tag-galeria-de-la-raza","tag-mission-cultural-center-for-latino-arts","entry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
