With a circulation of 7,000, <em>El Tecolote<\/em> is the longest-running bilingual English-Spanish newspaper in California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What We Do<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are a bilingual publication focused on neighborhood news, arts and culture. Our print newspaper is distributed throughout the Mission District and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who We Are<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our team includes student journalists, artists, academics, volunteers and community members who believe in the power of community media to inform, connect and strengthen historically underserved and marginalized communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Our History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our newsroom is rooted in a legacy of grassroots community journalism. In 1970, Professor Juan Gonzales created a La Raza Studies course at San Francisco State University to encourage more Latino students to pursue careers in journalism. As their final project, students created a bilingual newspaper in English and Spanish. The first edition of <em>El Tecolote<\/em> hit the streets of the Mission District on August 24, 1970.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>El Tecolote is the historic community newspaper of San Francisco\u2019s Mission District.
