The Pelican Bay Prison Hunger Strike has gained considerable momentum. The renewed strike began last week and is the second such mass action staged by inmates in less than six months to draw attention to
overly punitive treatment.

Roughly 200 people gathered at United Nations Plaza, July 9, in solidarity with thousands of California prison inmates holding an indefinite hunger strike to protest what they say are inhuman and torturous conditions.

Roughly 50-100 prisoners being held in the Secure Housing Unit of Pelican Bay State Prison are beginning a hunger strike on Friday, July 1 to protest what they say are acts of physical and psychological torture at the hands of prison officials and inhuman conditions in the SHU.
