The Golden State Warriors held their championship on parade June 15, 2017, in Oakland, which prompted approximately 1.5 million fans to come from all over the Bay Area to support the 2016-17 NBA Champions.
Fans of all ages came to celebrate the Warriors historic playoff run—one that saw them go an all-time best 16-1—as the Dubs beat the Cleveland Cavaliers to win their second championship in the three years.
Last year’s heartbreaking loss to the same Cavaliers in game seven prompted the Warriors front office to sign Kevin Durant, and the rest is history. Durant not only won his first championship last week, but earned the NBA Finals MVP.
The infamous 3-1 lead that the team gave up last year to lose to the Cavs was a distant memory Thursday, as everyone cheered, jumped in joy and chanted as the team hoisted up the Larry O’Brien Championship trophy on stage at Lake Merritt.[su_youtube url=”https://youtu.be/jk2tU8YCRBM”]
