Editor’s note: The following obituary is that of Oscar Ortega Torres, beloved tío of Mabel Jiménez, former photo editor of El Tecolote, and longtime collaborator.
Oscar Ortega Torres lived in Mexico City, where he recently lost his battle against COVID-19. He is survived by his wife, Lulu Jiménez Barón, their five children Claudia, Verónica, Adriana, Kivi and Oscar Daniel Ortega Jiménez; and four grandchildren, Claudia Xel, Lizeth Amellalí, María Fernanda and Ulises Xanat.
His children will remember him as “an exceptional father, incredible husband, collaborative brother-in-law, amazing uncle and the most caring father-grandfather. Always there, and the most loving since the day we were born until his last moment. A being full of light and love who leaves a huge emptiness in our hearts and family.”
He leaves behind dozens of relatives who will miss his kind nature, willingness to help and be there for others, and of course, for his silly humor and pranks.
