A group of 700 protesters gathered Saturday evening at Oscar Grant Plaza in downtown Oakland to stand in solidarity with Portland’s dispute with federal intervention. Additionally, the group marched to advocate justice against systemic racism. Despite calls from leaders to remain peaceful and positive, a small group engaged in breaking glass windows, vandalizing buildings, and attempting to set fire to the Alameda County Court House. The majority of participants exercised peaceful protest practices and marched through the streets of Oakland playing music and singing inspirational chants for justice.
