Attorneys challenge SFPD account of Perez-Lopez slaying
Attorneys for the family of Amilcar Perez-Lopez, the 21-year-old Latino man killed on Feb. 26 by San Francisco police officers, are challenging the SFPD’s official version of events, which they say is inconsistent with the physical evidence and eye-witnesses accounts. They are also requesting that the Department of Justice open a criminal investigation into the shooting. The attorneys have scheduled a press conference where they will appear with Perez-Lopez’s parents via Skype from Guatemala, along with representatives from the Mission community. The conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, April 24 at 44 Montgomery Street, in the Lower Level Conference room.

Mexican Museum partners with UC Berkeley
The Mexican Museum has announced plans to partner with the Center for Latin American Studies at UC Berkeley with the goal of creating an “exchange of ideas, artists, and scholarship that will bring innovative cultural programming to a wider audience in the Bay Area and California.” Specifically, it is hoped that the collaboration will provide greater exposure to the unique and varied collections of The Mexican Museum for audiences who are not necessarily museum patrons.
