A lyricist, producer, youth worker and community organizer, the music of Reza ”Dregs One” Harris addresses social justice issues in San Francisco such as police brutality, displacement and homeless youth.

Harris’ rhymes are accompanied by classic hip-hop instrumentals–jazz influenced, with drums, snares and hard-hitting bass.

Through his quick, aggressive verses he shares his experiences as a “city kid” growing up in San Francisco.

When Harris is not rhyming, he does social work for inner city youth in the Tenderloin.

“It’s a place where people share struggle, and as a result there is a strong bond of solidarity within many people in the community,” Harris said of the Tenderloin. “It’s a place where people still say hello to each other on the street, where people help each other out through the non-stop pain, grief and struggle they experience.”

In an effort to keep building and strengthening communities, Harris will be holding an event featuring music and art titled “Take Back Our City,” Saturday, June 7 at Slims, 333 11th St., San Francisco.
